This special lighthouse (est. 1909) is at the mouth of the Thames River in New London Connecticut, protecting ships from dangerous ledges and shoals at the entrance of the harbor.
A favorite lore of the lighthouse is it's infamous ghost, "Ernie." It's been told that when a keeper in the 1920's or 30's learned that his wife ran off with the captain of the Block Island Ferry, he jumped or fell to his death from the roof of the lighthouse. Since then, mysterious things have happened at the lighthouse...televisions going on and off, doors closing on their own, fog horns going off for no reason.
You can get a great view of the lighthouse by taking the ferry from New London, CT, to Block Island, RI.
